During the 1930’s, Rev. Robert C. Bain and wife, Beatrice dreamed of a big “White Church on a Hill”. The congregation of five members believed in that dream and sought God in fasting and praying daily.
In 1937 that dream became a reality. A three-room house on the corner of Raleigh Street and 22nd Avenue in Hollywood was converted into a place of worship until the death of Rev. Bain in 1940. Rev. Hartman Poitier was then appointed pastor along with the assistance of Rev. H.A. Delevoe Sr., a dedicated servant of God and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. In that same year, 1940, the Lord sent Evangelist Mary Long to Hollywood. She conducted numerous revivals, which added to the growth of the Church. This growth included outstanding pioneer families such as; the Bains’, Delevoes’, Saunders’, Newbolds’, Kellys’, along with many others. Mother Bain continued her tenure as a Mother of the church, along with Mother Louise Saunders, Mother Rebecca Edwards, Mother Everetta King and Mother Lena Newbold. Charter members were Beatrice Bain, Everetta King, Louise Saunders, James Kelly, Murline Pinder, Lorraine Delevoe, John Kelly, Jane Davis, and Rev. Leroy Saunders.
In 1943 the first Church of God in Dania was built under the pastorship of Rev. Hartman Poitier, he ended his tenure of service after the dedication of the church. Other pastors appointed were: Rev. J.R. Davis, Rev. George Adderley, Rev. J.B. Ferguson, Rev. Malachi Dean, Rev. H. G. Poitier, and Rev. Herbert Woodside.
Rev. James Gooden’s tenure began in 1955 and ended in 1961. During this time, the church was built and dedicated in 1961. Succeeding Rev. Gooden were the following pastors: Rev. Walter Jackson, Rev. J.Z. Smith, Rev. S. T. Grant, Rev. C. L. Turnquest, Rev. Ronald Rolle, Rev. Earl Wallace, Rev. Vernal Weech, Rev. Michael Reid Sr., Rev. Henry Van Rolle, Rev. Jonathan Ramsey Jr., Rev. Donald Pratt, Rev. Edward Kendeall, Rev. W.C. Menendez, Rev. Percival Wallace, Rev. Sam T. Green, and presently Bishop Howard J. Rolle.
In the 1980’s, we were able to reconstruct and add on a new addition to Dania Church of God. In 1986 the Church of God celebrated its “Bi-CENTENNIAL YEAR”. On May 6, 1997 a new ministry was born: Calvary Restoration Ministries.
The priorities and goals remained the same, “To reach the whole world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ” and “To initiate Evangelism as a priority Ministry in every department outreach of the church.
